Back in the summer of 2013 we ventured off for the first time to one of my favourite campsites in the whole of France, Le Clarys Plage!
Le Clarys Plage is located in the Vendee region of France near to the town of St Jean de Monts and we stayed there with Canvas Holidays. We chose Le Clarys Plage because of it's location and also it's brilliant looking facilities and we were not disappointed. The campsite is located on the western coast of France and generally benefits from some great weather during the summer months. The campsite has a great range of facilities including a fantastic swimming pool and about 5 minutes down the road there's a glorious sandy beach. As the drive to the campsite was expected to take around 4 hours or so, we decided to get the night ferry from Plymouth to Roscoff with Brittany Ferries. The night crossing is great as you can get a good nights sleep during the crossing which leaves at around 11pm and then get up feeling fairly refreshed for your onwards drive. Unfortunately I hadn't taken into account that the weekend we went was a public holiday and unfortunately the roads around Nantes where fairly busy. Saying that, we were only delayed for about an hours which in the long run wasn't really that bad. As soon as we got to the campsite i was really pleased that we'd chosen Le Clarys Plage for our holiday. The swimming pool can be seen from the road and main entrance and it was fantastic. The kids were so pleased with what they had seen they couldn't wait to get in. The pool at Le Clarys Plage is fantastic there are a variety of slides for different aged children and are also suitable for a variety of abilities. There's also a lazy river and a fantastic water jet play area with a giant red dragon which spurts water all over the place. The rest of the facilities are great at the campsite with a range of playgrounds, bar, restaurant, take away and loads more to boot. As we mentioned, the beach was also brilliant. It was absolutely huge and there's a car park right behind it which is free and which means you don't have to walk all your stuff down to the waters edge from the campsite if you don't want to. We spent a massive amount of time on the beach as well as by the pool. We tried to spend at least every other morning or afternoon at the beach as the kids really loved it. If we were to go there again we would definitely take our bikes as there are simply loads of cycle tracks all around the area. Let us know what you think.
